There are many occasions when we leave our homes to go to certain places but don’t know the exact route to follow, or we have doubts about it. Geo-reference and location applications have come to alleviate this problem since, by simply searching for the place and selecting it on the map, they guide us on the route we need to take to get there. Nowadays, very few people rely solely on intuition or memorizing street names, and that’s why it’s essential to take advantage of technological advances in this regard to simplify our lives. The most important platform in this segment is undoubtedly Maps from Google, a web mapping application server owned by Alphabet, currently with millions of users worldwide.
This tool has many benefits besides guiding us in time and space. One of the main aspects that sets it apart from similar tools is its portability and adaptability to different devices. The platform can be used similarly on a smartphone or tablet as well as on a computer, and sometimes it can even be used on both simultaneously.
As mentioned, Google Maps not only offers the functionality of location but also provides other types of information, such as the opening hours of the place, opinions or ratings from other users regarding the sites, phone numbers, websites, among many other details. Since it can be used on more than one device, there are many occasions when we need to send information from one to the other, and most commonly, it involves sending from the computer to the mobile phone. This is a feature that the tool offers, although many people may not be aware of it or know where to find it. Therefore, in this article, we will specify the step-by-step process of how to send information from Google Maps to our mobile, easily and instantly. There are various ways to do this, and each one has different considerations, which will be detailed below.
How to send information from Google Maps to the mobile phone from the computer
Firstly, it’s important to mention that there isn’t a single way to send information to the cell phone since it can be directed to email, the mobile device Google Maps application, or social networks such as Facebook or Instagram. The process for each of these actions is very similar from the computer, although some options change at the end. Therefore, we will explain the step-by-step process with some variations depending on the different alternatives.
Step 1: Access the Google Maps website or app
As some things are easier to search on a computer, the first action we must take is to access Google Maps from the computer, and then we can send it to the mobile device. Simply by clicking the highlighted blue link, we can enter and kick-start the search.
Step 2: Perform the search
Once inside Google Maps, we can see a white bar at the top left of the screen with a magnifying glass icon next to it. This is the search bar that says “Search on Google Maps,” and we need to click to start the exploration.
After clicking on the search bar, we have to start typing the term that corresponds to the place we need to go to, with as much precision as possible. A dropdown is automatically opening just below the search bar with various result options that it finds. Simply select the correct option, although we recommend paying special attention to the results and not choosing the first one that appears, as the gray text next to the name provides more information, and different alternatives may appear.
Step 3: Send to the phone
After selecting the place we want to go to, Maps provides us with all the information we need, such as directions, address, travel time, and information about the place, such as the website and opening hours. On the left side, there are 5 options, among which we can see “Send to phone” There, we have to press to send it, but it’s essential to clarify that if we want to do it directly to the cell phone, the Google or Apple accounts registered on each of the devices must match.
If the computer detects that the account is open on some other mobile device, it gives us the option to select it to directly send it to the cell phone. We also have the alternative to send it to the email, provided that the option presented to us is to the account open on that computer.
Once we do this, we can verify that it has actually been sent when the button that said “Send to phone” before now says “Sent” and it has a check-mark indicating that this action has been completed.
Step 4: Reception on the mobile
As soon as we finish step 3, we must go to the mobile device we selected when making the shipment, and there we can see that we received the notification that the Maps has been shared with the smartphone. Simply press on that notification to be directed to the application.
How to send information from Maps to social networks
If we want to send this same information to the device through other means than email or Maps itself, we can do it easily. The process we have to follow is exactly the same until the first two steps, and then, instead of pressing “Send to phone,” we must touch the button that says “Share.”
Once we do this, a new screen opens within the same tab, giving us the options of platforms to which we can send the link. The options we have are Facebook, Twitter, and Gmail, and by pressing any of these, we will have completed the process.
